Update on my health

on July 23, 2012

A recent PET scan showed that the cancer has spread faster and further than we had anticipated. I have multiple tumors in my: liver, spleen, lungs, lymph nodes (throughout my upper body), spine (L3 vertebrae), and left pelvic bone. The drs were surprised. I was not, as I have had pain in these areas. We’re waiting to hear back from Iowa City/University of Iowa Hospitals.

So sorry to hear this news!

I’ve had good results with the Y90 radio labeled octreotide, which Dr Odo and Iowa are close to being the first in the US to be approved to offer.

Please drop me a line if you’d like any more info about what it is like.

I’ve also found it helps to get the Iowa Fight Song in your head

We are gonna Fight, fight, fight for Iowa (girl)!

  2. I’m a Cyclone fan! 😉 Yeah, I’m not sure if I can wait until Dr. O’Do’s office is set up and ready to do the Y-90 treatment. And, I think that’s just for the liver. I’m looking at the LU-177 (PRRT) treatment. I might be going to Switzerland for it. I believe Dr. O’Do’s office is 8+ months away from doing clinical trials with that. But I’m not sure if I can wait that long. Also, my tumor markers are always normal. Dr. O’Do has about 4 or 5 of us who are like this. But because not all of my tumors overproduce serotonin, I may not qualify for some of these treatments.

But, yes, the fight is on! 🙂 I’m hoping to get 5 more years.
